What is CAMP?
Cyclic adenosine mono phosphate (CAMP) is a molecule that plays an important role in the body’s immune response. It is also known as cyclic guanosine monophosphate, cyclic GMP, or cGMP.
CAMP is produced by cells in the body when they are activated by cytokines, which are proteins that help to signal the cells to activate their defenses. Cytokines can be released by different types of cells, including white blood cells.
When CAMP is released by white blood cells, it signals other cells to start producing inflammatory chemicals. These chemicals help to fight off infection and inflammation.
CAMP also plays an important role in the body’s response to stress. When cortisol is released after a stressful event, for example, cAMP helps to increase the production of other hormones that help to relieve stress.
