What is DMCA?

The Copyright Act of 1976 is a United States federal law that provides rules for copyright, registration, and protection of intellectual property. The DMCA is a set of laws that implements the Copyright Act of 1976.

The DMCA is divided into two parts: the first part, called the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), deals with online copyright infringement. The second part, called the Audio Home Recording Act (AHRA), deals with copyright issues related to home recording.

Under the DMCA, online service providers (such as Google, Facebook, and Twitter) are responsible for removing copyrighted material from their websites when they receive a proper notice from the owner of the copyright material. Proper notices must include the name of the copyrighted work, the name of the owner of the copyright, and information about where to find the original copy of the copyrighted work.

Service providers are also required to disable access to infringing material once they have removed it. This means that people who have access to infringing material will not be able to view or download it anymore.
