What is DNA?

DeoxyriboNucleic Acid(DNA) is the genetic material that makes up the chromosomes in all living things. DNA is a long chain of sugar molecules, and it contains the instructions for making a cell work.

DNA is found in every cell in the body, including the cells in our muscles and organs. DNA helps to control how these cells function. It also helps to keep our genes locked inside our cells.

The main job of DNA is to carry the genetic information that makes us who we are. All of our characteristics — including our height, weight, and eye color — are based on our DNA.

Our DNA is divided into sections called chromosomes. Each chromosome is made up of one of four types of DNA molecules. Each type of DNA molecule has a particular job:

1. The molecule that contains the instructions for making a protein. This molecule is called a gene.
2. The molecule that controls when and where proteins are made. This molecule is called a promoter sequence.
3. The molecule that holds the proteins together. This molecule is called a protein coding sequence (also known as a codon).
4. The molecule that transports the proteins to where they’re needed
