What is FCB?
Football Club Barcelona, commonly known as FC Barcelona or simply Barcelona, is a professional football club based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The club was formed by members of the football team Real Madrid CF who left the club in 1904 due to financial reasons.
The first official game of FC Barcelona was played on March 28, 1902 against Arenas Club de Getxo which ended in a 2-2 draw. In 1957, due to increased interest in football and the signing of several top players from other clubs, FC Barcelona decided to build their own stadium. They purchased land adjacent to La Masia and began construction on the Camp Nou stadium which was completed in 1962. The cost of the stadium was €24 million.
Since then, FC Barcelona has become one of the most successful clubs in Europe with numerous titles including 18 La Liga championships, five Copa del Rey titles, four UEFA Champions League titles, and three Spanish Supercopa titles. They have also won two Intercontinental Cups and one European Cup Winners’ Cup. In 2009 they were declared World Club Champions after beating Manchester United in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup.
