What is ISS?

The International Space Station is a large spacecraft that orbits around Earth. It is a home away from home for astronauts who live and work there. The space station is also a science laboratory where researchers can conduct experiments in microgravity.

The space station has been occupied continuously since 2000. It is currently being visited by astronauts from the United States, Russia, Japan, and Europe. About six people live on the space station at any given time.

The space station looks like a giant jigsaw puzzle in space with several pieces that have been put together over the years. The first piece was launched into orbit in 1998. The space station is now made up of 16 pressurized modules, two solar arrays, and dozens of other components.

The space station has many different parts, but there are three main sections: the Russian Orbital Segment (ROS), the United States Orbital Segment (USOS), and the Common Berthing Module (CBM).

The ROS is the largest section of the space station. It includes the Zvezda service module, which serves as the living and working quarters for the astronauts. The ROS also has two docking ports where Soyuz spacecraft and Progress cargo ships can dock.
