What is JIO?
Jio Infocomm Limited, commonly known as Jio, is an Indian telecommunications company and a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, headquartered in Mumbai. It operates a national LTE network with coverage across all 22 telecom circles. Jio does not offer 2G or 3G service, and instead uses only voice over LTE to provide voice service on its network. The company offers data services through mobile apps such as MyJio, JioTV, JioCinema, and others.
Jio Infocomm Limited was founded in 2007 by Reliance Industries. The company started its commercial operations on 5 September 2016 with the launch of its LTE network. Jio has since then acquired various telecom assets of Reliance Communications, including wireless spectrum, tower infrastructure, fibre optic cable network, and media convergence nodes.
As of 2020, Jio serves over 382 million subscribers and is the largest wireless carrier in India.
