What is RAW?
RAW is a file format that contains unprocessed data from a digital camera. RAW files are not ready to be printed or edited with a photo editor. They must be converted to a different file format first.
Converting a RAW file to a different file format (like JPEG) is called “developing” the RAW file. When you develop a RAW file, you can choose how the image will look. You can adjust the white balance, exposure, sharpness, and other settings. This gives you more control over the final image than if you simply opened the RAW file in a photo editor and made changes without developing it first.
Developing a RAW file takes more time than opening a JPEG file in a photo editor and making changes. However, it gives you more control over the final image. So, if you’re serious about photography, learning how to develop RAW files is worth the effort.
