What is SSB?

Single Side Band, or SSB, is a type of modulation used in voice radio communications. It is a form of amplitude modulation, in which the amplitude (strength) of the carrier wave is varied in accordance with the strength of the signal being transmitted.

The main advantage of SSB over other forms of modulation is that it requires less bandwidth than other methods. This means that more signals can be carried on a single frequency, and that SSB signals are less likely to interfere with each other.

SSB signals are also less vulnerable to interference from noise sources such as electrical equipment or power lines. This makes them ideal for use in areas where there is a lot of background noise.

There are two types of SSB: upper sideband (USB) and lower sideband (LSB). USB is used for most voice communications, as it gives better quality audio than LSB. LSB is usually only used for data transmissions, as it can be more difficult to understand speech when using this method.
